Marine Insurance--Other Resources

Further Reading--The following books have more information about marine issues than we can provide in this site. We haven't checked whether they are still in print, but you can easily check availability at Amazon.com.

William D. Winter. Marine Insurance Its Principles and Practice (New York: McGraw Hill) 1952. The "Bible" of marine insurance. Authoritative text that reads easily. Its only shortcoming is its publication date. But, Marine Insurance being what it is, there have been very few changes since 1957, and the text remains superb.

David L. Bickelhaupt. General Insurance (Homewoood, Illinois: Richard D. Irwin) 1983. Chapter 15, "Transportation Insurance". A typical Richard D. Irwin text. Authoritative but very, very dry. You'll likely find the information you want, in fewer pages than the Winter text, but will be bored to death (or at least to sleep) while you read.

Lance C. Kendall and James J. Buckley. The Business of Insurance. (Cornell Maritime Press). Covers wide areas of shipping-related activities, e.g., tramp shipping, liner shipping, terminal operations, stevedoring, bills of lading...

Edward J. Hinkelman. Dictionary of International Trade: 4071 International Trade, Economic, Banking, Legal and Shipping Terms. What it says.

Carl A. Nelson, Import-Export: How to Get Started in International Trade. A well-regarded primer on many aspects of the subject. How to import and export from A to Z in clear language. A terrific first book on the subject.

U.S. Customs Service. A Basic Guide to Importing. What more authoritative source could you ask for than Customs?
